Therapy
If there are areas of need identified during the assessment, speech-language therapy may be recommended. We work together with families to develop a program tailored to the needs of you and your child. Evidence-based practice is a guiding principle of our therapy programs.
Therapy Services include:
- Individual therapy at our Centre.
- Group therapy at our Centre (as available).
- Parent education.
- Recommendations for home programs, including specific materials parents can use at home to work with their children.
- Consultation with other professionals, such as teachers and behaviour therapists.
- Areas that can be treated include: articulation delay/disorder, oral-motor speech disorders, apraxia, autism spectrum disorders, social communication disorders, language delay/disorder, language-based learning disabilities, reading and writing, fluency disorders (stuttering), and complex communication disorders.
Why Choose Us?
- Individualized therapy plans: For all children who are followed at our Centre, we take great care to provide individualized 'therapy plans', which identify specific goals for your child. We regularly review your child's progress toward these goals and update the plan every 10 sessions.
- Evidence-based practice: We strive to use strategies and programs that get results and are research-based. Evidence-based practice is highly valued at our clinic. What is evidence based practice?
- Specialized treatment methods, including:
- PROMPT (Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets)
- Lidcombe Fluency Shaping Program for stuttering
- Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS)
- Services for children with Autism: Our clinicians who are experienced in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) offer direct speech-language therapy focusing on the communication needs of children with autism, as well as consultation to schools and clinics providing ABA services. ABA-based treatments have been found to be effective for many children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
